Why Did God Forbid the Israelites from Intermarrying the Canaanites in the Bible?

Since the Canaan got cursed by Noah way back in Genesis 10, all his descendants formed part of the curse. God, who knew Jesus would come through a woman, chose to forbid the Israelites from marrying any Canaanite descendant all throughout the Old Testament because He wanted to preserve the holy Seed of Christ flowing through Abraham’s family line, especially Judah.

You Are a Child of the Light

The Bible says, as God’s child, you are a child of the light and also of the day. You may ask, what does this mean? Well, it means that you are not under the bondage of darkness because Jesus has set you free, and God, the Father of lights (see James 1:17), dwells in you (see 1 John 4:8).

You Are a Fellow Citizen with God’s People

When the Bible says you are no longer foreigners and strangers but a fellow citizen with God’s people and members of His household, guess what it means? It implies that you belong to God and the family of believers. If it is to be an organisational setting, it’s like you becoming a part of the internal team instead of watching what the organisation does from afar.

We Have Redemption in Christ Through His Blood

We had sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (see Romans 3:23). But God didn’t leave us in that state. No! His love for us transcended beyond our offence against Him. So, what did He do? He made Jesus come to die and take away the sin of the world (see John 1:29, Romans 3:24). Today, because of the redeeming power of Christ’s blood, you are set free from sin as God’s child.

Don’t Destroy Yourselves as Brethren

Don’t destroy yourselves as brethren, especially in the same church. The devil capitalises on these things to make people shun fellowship, and once fellowship is missing, he starts leading them to do rebellious things. Learn to forgive people very quickly and move on in your faith journey.

You Are Called to Be Free

Your usage of your freedom in Christ will constantly be tested, and you must be determined to let God win the battle at every time. You’ll often receive offers, even huge ones, to engage in evil without anyone watching you. But remember, God is with you. So, just as you are called to be free, update your mind to do what the Word says so that God will always be proud of you.
