You Are a Child of the Light

[5] “You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:5 (NIV)

In Ghana, where I hail from, we sometimes experience intermittent power outages. It’s usually not serious in the daytime because of the presence of sunlight, although the situation affects many businesses. But at night, it’s worse because people can’t see well, and it’s terrible to sleep in darkness, full of heat. Moreover, a person cannot even work at that time. All that I am saying is that the absence of light has nothing good to offer, and as such, it has a lot of limitations.

The Bible says, as God’s child, you are a child of the light and also of the day. You may ask, What does this mean? Well, it means that you are not under the bondage of darkness because Jesus has set you free, and God, the Father of lights (see James 1:17), dwells in you (see 1 John 4:4). In Christ, you are no longer condemned, neither are you a slave to the devil. You are free, liberated and accepted in the beloved.

Dear one, what is worrying you that you find it hard to overcome? What is making you think that God has forsaken you to suffer? Come to Jesus. Lay aside the weight of your problems to God and focus on pursuing a deeper intimacy with Him. The more He illuminates you with His light, the more your life will become like Jesus.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for grace and mercy. Thank you for making me a child of the light. For any part of my life not submitted unto Your lordship, I submit all to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
