[27] And it happened, as He spoke these things, that a certain woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” [28] But He said, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” – Luke 11:27-28 (NKJV)
Jesus usually received accolades from crowds when he was on ministerial tours. One time, He was preaching to some Israelites concerning various topics, such as “a house divided against itself cannot stand” and “a returning unclean spirit,” then a woman from the crowd shouted and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!” But Jesus didn’t even thank her for her good words. He replied, “More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Think about that. There are some lessons to learn here.
1. As a minister of the gospel, the good things people say about you should not get so much of your thoughts. Remember that it was the same Israelites that shouted “Crucify Him” to Pilate on Jesus’ trial. Those who praise you today can become your worst critics tomorrow.
2. Blessed are those who hear the Word and obey it, said Jesus. That means Jesus doesn’t want people to just listen to Him but also to do what His Word says. And if you’re going to live like that, you must study the Word and walk in its consciousness.
Dear minister, watch your life closely as you minister to diverse kinds of people. Make sure your ministry doesn’t get discredited. Live what you preach and discipline yourself, lest you become a castaway (see 1 Corinthians 9:27).
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to live according to Your dictates no matter where I find myself on the surface of this Earth. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
