In Your Anger Do Not Sin

[26] “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,” – Ephesians 4:26 (NIV)

Anger is not evil. However, it is slippery because it’s one step away from destroying many peaceful relationships. Because of how delicate this is, God’s Word doesn’t prevent us from becoming angry. However, he warns us against staying angry for a long time.

Have you realised that you can speak regrettable words when you get angry? Many people end up apologising to people they spoke harshly to in their moments of anger. Fortunately, some win back their friends. But some don’t. I have lost great friendships because people spoke to me badly about something I didn’t see as wrong. I forgave them, but it took a long time before I could get over the pain.

You must understand that not everyone has the capacity to handle the reception of harsh words. Some people have died because their close friends or spouses spoke harshly to them. So, be on your guard. The Bible teaches us to be completely humble and gentle (see Ephesians 4:2), which means that speaking evil of anyone is unnecessary, dear Christian (see Titus 2:1).

In your anger, watch what you say. It’s better to keep quiet when angry, calm your raging emotions, and pray before responding to others. Moreover, note that you don’t have to respond to every critic. No matter what you do, people will talk. So, live to fulfil God’s will.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to control myself anytime I get angry. Help me to love people genuinely and to speak well of them, both in their presence and absence. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
