[12] “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” — Matthew 7:12 NIV
Men and women have unique needs as to how each wants to be treated. Most women want to be treated with so much love and affection, while men want to be treated with respect. Children also want their parents to protect and provide for their needs. So you see, everybody has needs. But sometimes, people demand things from others they themselves are not willing to provide for them.
For example, it’s weird for a wife to shout at her husband and expect him to provide her with love and financial support concurrently. If she wants the best of her husband, she must know how to speak to him as a king while being a submissive wife. Right? That depicts what I call the golden rule in scripture as said by Jesus: “… in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you…”.
Notice that Jesus did not say to treat others like you treat yourself. He said treat others the way you want them to treat you. In other words, be reciprocated in your demands of people’s treatment.
Dear pastor, if you want congregants to treat you well, keep sowing into their lives spiritually while living with Christ-centred integrity. Dear father, if you want your children to love you, don’t embitter them. If you want the best in your wife, love her from a pure heart despite her insecurities. Live a life that glorifies God, and let excellence be your hallmark.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for treating me as a loving child. I pray for the grace to treat others as I would like them to treat me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
