Do Your Work Wholeheartedly

[23] “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; [24] Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” — Colossians 3:23-24 KJV

Having done a lot of menial jobs before and also seeing people do multiple jobs in their lives, I’ve come to realise that what Paul said by the inspiration of the Spirit in Colossians 3:23 is very serious. Anytime you see people work out of compulsion and not from their hearts, they usually do it frustrated within or shabbily. Today, it’s not surprising that many lazy people in workplaces are using company resources to do evil private things.

Hear what’s written in Colossians 3:23 (NIV).

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

This verse says whether you’re working in the ministry or a secular environment, do it as you’re doing it for God. Of course, Paul was speaking to believers. So the kind of work he wrote about wasn’t associated with evil things like smoking, killing people or stealing money. It’s about the work of the believer’s hands – you inclusive.

Are you a minister, carpenter, mason, computer programmer, etc.? Do your work wholeheartedly unto the Lord. Take that business you’re employed in as yours and work with all your heart as if you’re the boss. And as you serve, God will recognise your labour and reward you bountifully.

Be a distinction amongst the other workers. While others are slack concerning work, enable the grace at work in you to put in the maximum effort with seriousness to do what’s expected of you, even without being supervised. And the Lord will bless the work of your hands.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the promise that You’ll reward me for giving diligence to my calling. I pray in Jesus’ name, help me not to be slack concerning the fulfilment of my divine mandate. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
