Serve Wholeheartedly as If You Were Serving the Lord

[7] “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, [8] because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.” – Ephesians 6:7-8 (NIV)

How does it feel to work so hard for someone, yet be paid less, not given any bonus, salary raise, or even promoted? It’s very frustrating. Right? These are some reasons why many people decide to become their own bosses instead of working under others. Well, I don’t believe everyone is ordained to become one’s own boss because if that is so, how can corporations exist? Think about the twelve disciples. If each of them had decided to have their own ministry, they would have been separated, and the gospel wouldn’t have reached as far as it is today.

Knowing this reality, Paul said in Ephesians 6:7 that believers must serve wholeheartedly as if they were serving the Lord, not people. Yes, He was talking to the believers who were slaves in people’s households. Today, the word “slave” is like an employee in an institution.

Because of the Spirit of God in you, He can show you the mysteries of how financial systems in your workplace work. He can even reveal to you how the company may be cheating you regarding how you help them raise their profits. But if you have that gift of revelation without understanding Ephesians 6:7, you’ll become an ungrateful and bad employee who may potentially be influenced to love money.

Dear one, calm down when it comes to service. God will always reward you for everything you do in ministry and service in the secular workplace. That reward of God will always be greater than what any man will ever give you. Instead of complaining about the evil men do, even at your workplace, focus on your work and do it diligently, as if you are doing it for the Lord.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me be faithful wherever I go to work, whether well appreciated or not. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
