[3] “withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:” — Colossians 4:3 KJV
As a preacher who writes almost every day, I get asked by some ministry friends and team members how I handle the pressure of bringing God’s Word to them each day without burning out. Most of the time, I smile at those who ask me that, primarily because they don’t know the wisdom God has given me to do all that He inspires me to do.
Like every preacher or worker whose products are in constant demand, there’s always a way to make it available for people reliant on you to not lose their trust in you. So God is wise. He knew this even before business people took up that doctrine and incorporated it in the production field. He supplies His Word to those He sends so they don’t run out of utterance. But the primary way He does it is by intense and consistent divine fellowship. That is why every genuine preacher will attest that the Word of the Lord comes to them as they spend time with Him, especially in their closets.
Here’s something noteworthy. Paul admonished the Colossian church to pray for him, that God will open a door of utterance unto him (and his team too). But you might say: “Is that not Paul, with all the revelation and knowledge he had? Does he need prayer to talk?”
Friend, preaching isn’t for knowledge display. It’s for the demonstration of the power of the Spirit of God to everyone who hears the Word, including the preacher himself. But how can the preacher preach God’s message if he doesn’t receive it?
You see, it’s good to plan sermon topics as an organisation, and we do that in our ministry. But even in the face of that, remember that it’s the same God you must rely on to give you the topics to fix on the service days to the minister or preachers involved; suppose you’re a team of pastors.
Ministry is never a struggle for those who receive their template and Word for doing it from God Himself. Prioritise what God tells you and keep preaching His Word as you receive it and prepare it according to how God revealed it to you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the provision of Your Word in my mouth to keep preaching the gospel of Christ. In the name of Jesus, help me become entirely dependent on You for the reception of Your Word to speak to myself, my family and Your sheep entrusted to my care. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
