[2] “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” – Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)
Gentility and humility are two virtues that go hand in hand. It is quite hard to find a humble but not gentle person. Maybe you’ve seen some before, but not me. In fact, gentility and humility have a way of spreading good news about your name you may not realise. It is worth it.
As a believer, God wants you to live a life so consecrated in Him that other unbelievers won’t have any justifiable evil to say about you. Even though you will be persecuted for your faith, God doesn’t want the reason for that to be associated with any evil thing you have done. Think about this.
Many unbelievers don’t value the gospel. So, when you live a life honouring God, it naturally and spiritually irritates them. That is why the devil uses them to persecute you. In fact, you shouldn’t be surprised when people say evil things about you. The higher you go in Christ, the more people will talk about you. But God’s Word has instructed you to be completely humble and gentle. Note the word is “completely”, not “partly.”
It pays to be completely humble and gentle. When God sees you to be humble and gentle, He will open doors for you that you never think it is possible. Don’t live always scheming ways to be arrogant to people, even if they talk badly about you. Let God avenge you, not yourself.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to be completely humble and gentle in all my life’s endeavours. May I never be arrogant to others, no matter how bad they are to me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
