[5] “In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” – 1 Peter 5:5 (NIV)
Humble people are characterised by their calmness. They are quick to hear and obey meaningful instructions from their superiors, subordinates and even colleagues. And in Christ, it’s such a blessing to be called humble. Why? Because the scriptures say that God shows favour to the humble. Meanwhile, this same God resists the proud.
Pride is costly. Before a man gets destroyed by his evil ways, his pride will show first. Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) says,
[18] “Pride goes before destruction,
And a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Do you want God to consistently show you favour? Then, choose to remain humble. But note that humility doesn’t mean you ought to let just anybody treat you like a beggar or as a person with low self-esteem. No! Joseph was humble in Potiphar’s house. But he learnt that his first loyalty was to God and not to any man. That’s why he had the courage to flee from Potiphar’s wife when she tried multiple times to lure him into sexual immorality.
You must learn to consciously live a holy life before God no matter where you find yourself. That also means you must submit to your boss as a humble person but not to do things that are sinful. Also, learn how to reject false accusations and filthy talks of people who don’t know you as God knows you. Keep your head straight on fulfilling your divine purpose. The Lord will beautify your life with His goodness.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for divine enablement to live by grace. I pray that I remain living humbly under Your feet no matter where I find myself on the face of this Earth. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
