[11] “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 4:11 (NKJV)
One of the most difficult things to do as a believer is to do the work of the ministry with your own strength. If you keep doing that, you’ll start well and eventually get exhausted. I’m sad to say that many pastors who complain of burnout are a result of this – they don’t serve with God’s strength but theirs. And when pastoral responsibility overwhelms them to the extent of affecting their intimate time with God, it just worsens.
God’s ways may be ancient. But I tell you that none of them have become any less effective. Prayer is still effective. Fasting is still great. Bible study is still awesome. God’s ways don’t need updates to fit into this changing world. As for how to pastor people and manage His flock, significant changes have occurred over the years, especially with the increasing developments in the world of technology.
Dear minister, serve with God’s strength, which He supplies, not yours. Stop depending on your human strategies to do what He has called you to do. Depend on Him. I’m not saying don’t research bringing His Word closer to His people. No! Do that. But for what will help you to keep tapping strength from the Lord – such as prayer, don’t abandon it in any way. I pray that God should nourish Your mind to be creative in ways that will help you remain conscious of Him.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to remain conscious of Your presence. Keep me connected to You as I serve in Your vineyard. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
