[11] “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 4:11 (NKJV)
The word “minister” in the verse above means “serve.” So Peter is saying that if anyone serves, let that person do it with God’s supplicative ability, not his. Therefore, it’s absolutely clear that nobody can serve God in his own strength. And Paul made this clear in Acts 17:25 (NKJV) when he said,
“Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.”
God isn’t a God that craves for human worship. He doesn’t need our worship to be God. But we need His supply of grace to serve Him acceptably and with reverence and godly fear (see Hebrews 12:28).
Dear servant of God, what do you use to do the work? Is it your ability, skillset, knowledge or expertise in your career? Your knowledge may be essential for God’s work. However, don’t ever place it as a higher priority in your mind than the supplicative ability of God to serve Him. Or else you’ll do yourself a lot of harm.
In fact, it’s quite unfulfilling to serve God with your human strength. Apart from not having any eternal reward from heaven (because all you’re doing is of the flesh and not the spirit), you’ll lose the spiritual fervour to serve Him. Remember to spend enough time with God each day before you set out to serve Him. He will strengthen you to do His work effectively.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your immense love shed abroad in my heart. I pray that You’ll strengthen me to carry out Your divine mandate for my life each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
