[2] “As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. [3] For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. [4] They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.” — 1 Peter 4:2-4 (NIV)
Do you still see the friends you used to hang out with before you were born again? What do they tell you when you deny their invites to do evil things like attending secular events or telling lies? They accuse you, right? But why? It’s because Jesus has translated you from the power of darkness into His kingdom, where evil has no expression.
Today, you have the privilege, power and grace to say no to ungodliness. Thanks be unto God for that. But Paul speaks unto you a higher way realm of living. That is, living the rest of your life for the will of God and no more human evil desires. You might say this is hard, thinking you cannot enjoy life like how the worldly people do. But beloved, the joy of your salvation is greater than anything people call “enjoyment” in this evil world.
Whenever you feel like going back to the world, remember how much time you’ve wasted living in diverse lusts, orgies, debauchery, drunkenness, carousing and detestable idolatry. Remember how demons used your life for the devil’s pleasure. And remember how wretched you were before you encountered Jesus. Don’t ever say that because you got born again, life is hard so you’re going back to the world. In fact, your life has become like that because this world is evil, and it frowns upon ungodly living.
Bear the persecution because the price of your salvation is worth Jesus’ own blood. Once again, live the rest of your life to please God. He is with you and will never leave you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for saving me. Help me never to forget how wretched my life was when You saved me and always to draw from the wells of Your salvation. Thank you, Jesus. Amen!
