Purge Idolatry from Your Life

[21] “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” – 1 John 5:21 (NKJV)

Gone were the days when idolatry was defined as people worshipping graven statutes. Today, with the rise of technology and advancement in various fields of life, idolatry has evolved from serving graven statutes to making anything else get your allegiance aside from God. It could be your work, phone, education or anything else claiming a substantial amount of your time.

There weren’t pens like today during the early church, and letters were written with scarce ink. So, the apostles usually saved their most important advice to the last verses of their epistles. John couldn’t find anywhere to warn God’s people about idolatry except the last verse in his first epistle. That shows how important this is.

It’s sad to say that many Christians are professing the name of Christ but are plunged into deep idolatry. They go to church but spend more time doing things that don’t please God in their homes and with their devices. Today, if you are one of such people, there is a warning from scripture that purge idolatry from your life. But you may ask, how do I do that?

It’s that simple. Keep yourself from it. In other words, keep yourself from anything else that overtakes God as your number one priority in your life. In fact, serving other things aside, God is very bonding. Why? It’s because only God gives freedom not any man or secular organisation. Let Jesus be the reason why you do everything in life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for grace and peace in my life. May I ever keep You as my number one priority in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
