The Definition of True Worship

[1] “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1 (NIV)

What comes to mind when you think about “true worship”? For many, it’s more about singing slow-tune songs that end up adoring the Maker. That is good. But what if I told you that the definition of true worship has nothing to do with songs? Let’s delve deeper into this from Romans 12:1.

In that verse, Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote that what is called “true and proper worship” lies in presenting your body as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. So, as you can see, yielding your body to serve the purposes of God is worship. Songs are good and very necessary in adoring the name of the Lord. But worshipping the Lord is tied to your obedience to Him.

Do not let anybody deceive you that just because you don’t stand on stage to sing before the church of God doesn’t mean you aren’t worshipping the Lord. No! It’s pretty funny how God sees things so differently from man’s perspective. Your true and proper worship lies in obeying God’s commands and using your life to fulfil His will for you.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for helping me to continue worshipping You by yielding my body as a living sacrifice for Your will. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
