[1] “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” – Romans 12:1 (NIV)
God made man in three compartments – spirit, soul and body, all merged into one. And although He created these, He wants each person to yield one’s life wholly unto Him. Why? Because that is the only way such a person can live a life that pleases Him as a whole. Unfortunately, there are many people who have given over their spirits to the Lord when they became born again and not their bodies. And so because of that, these people’s physical lives contradict the standards of scripture, yet they claim to be in church. Could it be that I’m speaking about your life? If yes, then it’s time to offer your body as a living sacrifice to God. But you may ask, what does that mean?
To give your body to the Lord means yielding your physical life, starting from how you handle your body, especially health-wise, and what you use it to do, to the lordship of Christ. For example, if you live with the consciousness that your body is God’s temple (see 1 Corinthians 3:16), you will not use it to steal, smoke or eat bad foods. Also, if you know that your body belongs to God, you’ll obey Him when He tells you to use it for something for His kingdom’s benefit.
Dear Christian, the scripture is clear in 1 Corinthians 6:20 (KJV) that,
“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which is God’s.”
Your body has been purchased by God using Jesus’ blood. So the moment you get saved, you don’t own it. Instead, you are a steward of it, and it remains God’s property. Don’t ever live with the consciousness that God has possession of your spirit and not your soul and body; He does. God is not forceful but desires you to live a life pleasing unto Him. For then will you see the gradual manifestation of His plan for you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, I choose to yield every part of my body for your glorious call. Help me to be readily available unto You whenever You call me to serve. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
