Catch the Little Foxes that Spoil the Vines

[15] “Catch us the foxes,
The little foxes that spoil the vines,
For our vines have tender grapes.– Song of Songs 2:15 (NKJV)

The first time I heard this scripture, I was startled. My senior pastor was ministering to a few youths, which I was a part of, during the COVID-19 outbreak time in 2020. He mentioned the scripture after he had finished ministering all that he wanted to teach us for about a week, and since that time, I haven’t forgotten that word. What does it mean for the scripture to tell us to catch the little foxes that spoil the vines? Here’s the explanation.

Foxes are animals who roam about to devour good things. They are not cultivators but spoilers. In our lives, these are distractions sponsored by the devil and his cohorts to prevent the seed of the Word from bearing fruit in our lives as believers. And in fact, they are plenty. From social media to people’s evil talks and suggestive ideas that aim at making us disobey God, these are prevailing everyday distractions to constant meditation on God’s Word.

As a believer, you must be conscious of these distractors and eliminate them as often as possible. That is what it means to catch the little foxes that spoil the vines. By using the word “catch,” it means that spotting and eliminating distractions to your growth in God is an intentional work you must do. Look! The devil doesn’t want you to thrive in Christ, and that is why he likes distracting you. Give no chance to him.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to spot and eliminate distractors to the growth of Your Word in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
