“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” — Romans 12:1 NKJV
What is a sacrifice? It means votive offering. That is, intentionally giving out a precious thing you have for lasting benefits, most times, not immediately seen.
Many of us make sacrifices to pursue our wants. But sometimes, some of these sacrifices are unnecessary because some aren’t helpful in the end. For example, people steal gadgets and sell them merely to get money to buy illegal drugs. It’s a form of sacrifice, but it’s not beneficial.
Today, God is inviting you to present your body as a living sacrifice unto Him. But what does it mean when the scripture tells us this? Let me explain.
God is saying that instead of using your body to satisfy your selfish desires, donate it unconditionally to Him to use it for His purpose. Truthfully speaking, you can only have a purpose-driven life when you obey this Word. The life that God created you to live can’t be lived if you’re always thinking of living for yourself.
Nobody has achieved much for living unto themselves. No matter how big your vision is, you’ve got to submit your body to the Lord to discipline it and keep you on track. That means He’ll dictate what you must use your body for. And interestingly, God is a gentleman. He doesn’t force anybody to submit to Him, and whoever does so, He gives Him the grace to live unto Him by faith.
Life is beyond your physical achievements and possessions. So if you want your good works to outlive your physical existence, follow Jesus today, not lukewarmly, but graciously and sacrificially.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that You’ll take away whatever denies me from presenting my body as a living sacrifice unto you. Help me to live unto You, depending on You for my whole life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
