Learn Humility Through Divine Obedience The Jesus’ Way

We live in a world where anybody feels he’s somebody. Sometimes, this attitude shows off in the form of narcissism as people brag about their achievements, possessions and certifications. Such behaviours inflate their ego and indirectly lower others’ value in their minds. But the Bible says God is not a respecter of persons (see Acts 10:34). In other words, He doesn’t value some people above others — although what He partners with man to do varies in impact because of the differences in submission unto Him.

Jesus was (and is still) fully God. But upon getting to the earth, He made Himself of no reputation, took the form of a servant and humbled Himself to the death on the cross. Such humility is too high to comprehend with the human mind. Yet, Apostle Paul told the Ephesian church to carry that same humble mindset of Christ (see Philippians 2:5-6). Today, that Word is for you. You have the platform to learn humility through divine obedience the Jesus’ way. But you may ask, “How can I do this?”

God is not a respecter of persons. He doesn’t value some people above others.

God works in you to will and do His good pleasure

All the grace you need to live in godly humility is in Christ, not your human strength or strategies. The Word of God says in Romans 8:8 (NIV) that,

“Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.”

All unbelievers are in the flesh. Secondly, any believer who is not conscious of living in the realm of the Spirit, his natural abode in Christ (see Romans 8:9), will end up gratifying fleshly desires, which are evil (see Galatians 5:16).

To learn humility through divine obedience the Jesus’ way, recognise that it’s God who works in you, both to will and do his good pleasure (see Philippians 2:13). So it’s not about you but God in you helping you to live in submission to His ways by the direction of the Holy Spirit and the Word (see John 14:16, Psalm 119:105).

Cast all your cares upon the Lord as He leads you, not counting past achievements you’ve made. In that way, you’re humbling yourself under His mighty hand, and He’ll reward you with divine exaltation in due time.

It’s God who works in you, both to will and do his good pleasure. So it’s not about you but God in you helping you to live in submission to His ways by the direction of the Holy Spirit and the Word.

Serve others with your gift

As eternal as Jesus was (as still is) while in the world, He kept preaching, teaching and healing all manner of people oppressed by the devil (see Acts 10:38). So if all these things Jesus did were acts of servanthood and we’re supposed to learn from Him, then every endowment of grace upon our lives is for the benefit of many. 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV) says,

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

No matter how gifted you are, don’t hoard yourself with it in pride. Instead, minister it to one another as a steward of such grace. By doing so, you contribute to the impact of God upon every one who hears you or benefits from what you’re doing.

You’re a blessing!
