Three Reasons Why You Should Prioritise Bible Study In Your Walk With God

Bible study is essential in every child of God’s life. Although many have left its in-depth study to pastors and ministers, it is not right before God because the very essence of eternal life is to know Him (see John 17:3).

God’s Word contains God’s words – full of Spirit and (eternal) life (see John 6:63). So failure to study the Bible is failure to know God. The reason is that God has never and will never separate Himself from His Word, just as you cannot deny ownership of what you said if someone plays a voice note you recorded.

We are ambassadors of Christ wherever we are and go (2 Corinthians 5:20). But a primary necessity that enables every ambassador successful in his mission is by becoming abreast with the laws of the country he’s representing in that foreign land he’s residing in.

Jesus said we’re in the world but not of it (see John 17:16). That means we’re citizens of Zion dwelling in this world that is full of evil (see Galatians 1:4). Therefore, knowing the Word of the One (God) whom we’re representing and commissioned to spread His message of reconciliation (see 2 Corinthians 5:19) is very paramount in our lives, especially as ministers of the gospel.

Here are three reasons why you should prioritise Bible Study in your walk with God.

If you build your life based on the standards of God’s Word, you’ll never fail because God never fails.

#1 You’ll show yourself approved unto God as His workman

In 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV), Paul told Timothy that,

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

Even though Paul didn’t specifically say, “Study the Word to show thyself approved unto God…” that verse speaks a lot about Bible Study. God vets His workmen or ministers before entrusting people under their spiritual care. Each child of God is God’s sheep, and ministers are those who steward the shepherding with the help of the Holy Spirit (see Jeremiah 3:15).

Shepherding souls requires that you, the leader, would possess so much divine knowledge. Hence the more you study the Bible, the more knowledgeable you’ll be in the Lord, and the more God increase your spiritual authority and kingdom influence upon lives. If you want to see ministry expansion, don’t just pray and set up well-defined organisational structures. Study the Word!

#2 You’ll rightly divide the Word of Truth

God’s Word is Truth. But during its explanation in ministration, it needs to be carefully divided; so that the minister and the listener will thoroughly understand sound doctrine. That is why you cannot use just any Bible verse to preach about any Bible theme.

As a child of God, when you study the Bible consistently, God will give you the wisdom to connect dots in the Word to have a complete topical understanding of various Bible themes, which will help you massively.

#3 Your life will improve holistically

Knowing God’s Word improves your quality of life. Because it’ll offer you both short-term and long-term guidance. Psalm 119:105 (KJV) says,

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

God’s Word offers two-fold leadership – a lamp unto your feet (guiding you step by step in your daily decisions) and a light unto your path (giving you a long-term vision for life). I want to make a strong point here; if you build your life based on the standards of God’s Word, you’ll never fail because God never fails. Take God’s Word seriously and meditate in it frequently. You’re a blessing!
