Lean Not On Your Own Understanding

[5] “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” — Proverbs 3:5 NIV

How many of us like deciding on matters God has to fix with our own hands? Many, right? Do you know why? It’s because some of us don’t trust God fully. So we push some difficulties to God and choose to handle others with our own wisdom.

Yes, it is not evil to handle some situations with your intelligence. But the Bible says lean not on your own understanding. So what does it mean?

The word “lean” in Proverbs 3:5 means “depend” or “rely upon.” When you rely on your understanding, you override God’s perspective and wisdom to live according to His ways to yours. You’ll notice this when you become so self-centred about your choices. And it’s only a matter of time before you’d realise that your understanding is limited.

God is all-knowing. When you trust Him with all your heart, you’ll submit to His leadership. And with His limitless wisdom and understanding, He’ll direct your paths, and you’ll never end up a failure.

Don’t let your heart deceive you. Don’t submit to your changing emotions to make decisions today. You might regret it tomorrow. Rely on divine wisdom to navigate your life. It’s for your good.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Lord, don’t allow me to submit to my emotions and limited understanding to take matters of decisions and destinies into my hands. Create in me the urge to remain committed to your ways. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
