[16] “Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.” — 1 Peter 2:16 NIV
I see two confounding statements in the scripture above. First, Apostle Peter wrote, “Live as free people…”. Then he concludes by saying, “Live as God’s slaves.” It looks contradictory, but that is a revelation.
According to Jesus in John 8:36, it is written that,
“… if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
So Jesus has set us free from the bondage of sin to live freely in righteousness unto God. But He’s not just our Father; He’s also our Lord. That means in Christ, God has control over our lives – so much so that it is exactly like being a slave to a master.
Dear beloved, when the scriptures say you must live as God’s slave, don’t be perplexed, thinking you’ll miss the happiness unbelievers involve themselves in.
The Bible says in 1 John 5:19 that the world lies in wickedness. There’s no joy in the world. What people think it’s happiness is actually evil masquerading itself as good because the devil has blinded their eyes.
Joy is in God’s presence. So living according to His dictates would make you live as how your life had been programmed in Christ, long before you came to Him in godly repentance, which led to your salvation. Go and live as such.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for liberating me from darkness and dead works. Enlighten me to view everything that comes my way in divine light so I’d not be led astray. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
