[16] “Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” – 1 Timothy 4:16 (NIV)
In many workplaces, several people work for money. So they don’t do the work well without proper supervision, and that is an evil thing going on in this generation. No wonder people steal large sums of money from organisational coffers due to wicked monetary intelligence. But in ministry, this is also happening. Many ministers do evil things behind the scenes congregants are not aware of. But a lot of them fail to recognise that there is nothing hidden before God’s eyes. That is why Paul, knowing this very well, told Pastor Timothy that he should watch his life and doctrine closely. Why? Because if he does that and perseveres in them, he will save himself and his hearers. In other words, he should be his own chief supervisor.
Here is something I’ve discovered in my few years of working both in ministry and in secular workplaces. Whatever you do from your heart, you’ll do it well, even without manual supervision. For instance, if you devote yourself to prayer, it won’t be burdensome but something fulfilling to enjoy doing. It’s about time the children of God must desist from working to merely please people and letting money be the ultimate inspiration for what they do, especially in church. Remember what the scripture says in Colossians 3:23-24.
[23] “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, [24] knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)
God will reward you for whatever you do. But before He does that, you must work. Eyeservice makes productivity diminish when supervisors are not around. Since God is omnipresent, live with the consciousness that He is with you and, for that matter, live a holy life.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for grace and mercy. Help me to watch my life closely anywhere I go. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
