[19] He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” …, [28] And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” [29] So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” — Mark 9:19, 28 - 29 NKJV

Every leader knows that some subordinates don’t work to their expectations unless they get trained over time. Jesus knew it, and that’s why He said in Luke 6:40 NIV that,

The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher.”

So yes, it’s true that expertise creates a gap between leaders and subordinates. But in Christ, that is not only about experience but also spiritual capacity. The more spiritually capacitive you are, the greater things God will empower you to do to spread the net of kingdom influence.

The more spiritually capacitive you are, the greater things God will empower you to do to spread the net of kingdom influence.

One time, Jesus wasn’t around when a man brought his epileptic boy to get healing. The disciples did their best to cast the demon out of that little boy, but they couldn’t.

Later, Jesus came around and rebuked them, saying, “’You unbelieving generation’,…, ‘how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.’” Jesus was displeased that the disciples couldn’t deal with the situation, so He dealt with it Himself.

However, His disciples asked Him why they couldn’t drive out the demon. And He replied, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”

So Jesus showed them that the only way they could do what He did was to pray and fast continually. He didn’t sack them because He got angry. No! He saw that they could become better ministers in the future.

Dear leader, see growth in people when they show imperfections. You also got trained before reaching that level. Don’t discredit your team. Love them and build them up and create enough space in your organisation for them to learn from the mistakes they’ll commit. They’ll mature. Take things easy!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for providing me with great leadership. Give me the tenacity to love people and train them in godly reverence despite their imperfections. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
