Bring Children up in the Training and Admonition of the Lord

[4] “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” – Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV)

I haven’t yet had the privilege of becoming a biological father yet. However, I have had the opportunity to mentor a few people in Christ, some of whom were born again freshly when I ministered God’s Word to them. With the few years of experience I’ve had doing this as God’s servant, I have come to realise that what Paul said in the latter part of Ephesians 6:4 is very practical.

To nurture your children or anybody at all to become someone you’ll be proud of in future, it’s God’s Word you need, not cultural knowledge or even education (although this is important). Culture is dynamic. What our forefathers revered highly is no longer relevant to this current generation, especially among the youth. Talk about education. The syllabus my teachers in primary school used to teach me isn’t the same as today. In the United States, children were not taught about transgenderism until recently. What a tragedy!

God is wise. He knew that the only thing that can stand the test of time without being subject to change is His Word. That is why He said, through Paul, that parents, fathers especially, must bring children up in the training and admonition of the Lord. That implies that if a parent or a school teacher doesn’t know God intimately, the children in that person’s hands are in trouble. I believe this is why many young people in this generation are becoming more and more immoral. God’s Word wasn’t used to raise them up. I suffered that. Maybe you also did. But can we allow this to continue? Of course not!

Rise to this matter. You may be single right now reading this. Start investing in your spiritual growth to know God intimately. I assure you that if you keep doing this, even before you get married, your life will bless your future spouse and even generations unborn. When you start following God ardently, you’ll be seen as an odd personality. But don’t worry. Keep on keeping on. God is your strength.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to bring every child under my care in the fear and admonition of Your Word. Fill me with immense divine knowledge, capable of transforming generations unborn. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
