Let Your Greatest Desire be to Know God

[4] “One thing I have desired of the LORD,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD,
And to inquire in His temple.” – Psalms 27:4 (NKJV)

David is one of the people I get fascinated with his lifestyle anytime I read about him in the Bible. Even though he was the king of a large kingdom, Israel to be specific, he never toyed with his time with God. He had plenty of wives with many kids, meaning he had pressures from family members also. Yet, he still remained consistent with God. That’s something hard to see in this generation. I’ve seen people who were consistent in church until they got married. I’ve also seen people dwindle in commitment to God as soon as they got a job. All these happenings clearly show that few believers are well-rooted in the Lord. Most are shallow in devotion to God, and that is terrible.

Let me show you how David lived a very consecrated life unto God in the midst of so much pressure from his leadership position. He learnt how to worship God when he was in the wilderness. So when God elevated him, he knew how to maintain his devotional life in the midst of heightened responsibility. Till today, there hasn’t been a king in Israel who has lived as David did.

David’s greatest desire was not to be a king. In fact, God sent Samuel to anoint him when he was busily tending his father’s sheep in the bush. He was so consumed with knowing God and doing what had been given to him by his father, Jesse, to do, with or without human inspiration. Learn from this, child of God.

Let your greatest desire be to know God, not to earn titles, construct properties, build organisations, get married, have a family, etc. When your devotional life unto God is intact, you’ll get what others work so hard to get with ease. You’ll be surprised at how much God will lavish your life with provision. Just focus on following Him. He will beautify your life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your grace. Help me to know You better and stay focused on what You’ve called me to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
