“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” — Jeremiah 33:3 NKJV
One of the most painful things in life is to be in a one-sided love relationship. Such that you keep supplying love to the other person, but that fellow just doesn’t mind you, pick your calls or even want to hear your voice. What do you do? Christian relationship experts would tell you to leave that fellow and move on. And I even recommend that. Why? Because it’s terrible trying to build a relationship with someone who doesn’t like you. But, above all, is that what God did?
God loved man so much that He kept visiting him in the cool of the day (see Genesis 3:8), even after giving him dominion over the whole earth. But man sinned, breaking this strong relationship with Him. And over time, God became so fed up with the evil men did, that He wiped off every man except Noah’s family. But that was not enough to purge sin permanently in the world. So, in His own time, He sent Jesus to reconcile the world unto Himself through the atonement for all mankind’s sins (see 2 Corinthians 5:19).
Today, there’s no stumbling block between man and God. Jesus has become the mediator between man and God. Therefore, for every person to get back into a loving relationship with God, one first needs to accept the mediator, Jesus, as Lord and personal saviour. Following that, he got to be intentional about knowing God for himself. And that is why you must be conscious to build intimacy with the Lord.
According to Jeremiah 33:3, we are the ones who ought to take the first step if we want to know God intimately. That is, coming before the face of God, just like what Apostle James said in James 4:8 (NKJV): “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you …”.
God desires to share deep things with people. But He has reserved it to those who call upon Him. That is why it’s recently evident that some Christians know God more than others. Why? Because many believers don’t spend quality time with God on a daily basis.
Knowing God intimately isn’t reserved for some sect of Christians or pastors. You can know God for yourself also, dear believer. But until you pursue Him, He won’t share many secrets with you. It’s just like what happens in marriage. You can’t say you know someone’s husband more than his wife. It’s just impossible. Why? Because those two spouses have spent years living together, so much so that you cannot judge their intimacy level from the outside.
Today, decide firmly to invest in building your intimacy with the Lord. Create quality time in your busy schedule for only Jesus, no one else – not even your spouse. That would do you much more good than you can ever imagine.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, just as You love me, help me to build a deeper intimacy with You. Build a continual yearning for You in my heart that will draw me to spend time with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
