Be An Example to Other Believers

[12] “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV)

Living an exemplary life for others to admire and desire to be like is very honourable, and there are not many people like that in this generation. However, it involves work regardless of age. Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:12 to be an example to other believers in many things, despite his youthful age – in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith and purity. Think about this list one by one.

In word, you can be an example to fellow believers by speaking evil of no one (see Titus 2:1). Before you gush out defamatory words against your brethren in the Lord, ask yourself what that person will think about you if he heard it. Many people have lost great friendships because they spoke evil of close friends they’ve known for years. Don’t let that be your story.

In conduct, you can portray the deeds of Christ in your day-to-day activities. What another will do out of anger should be done by you with great calmness.

In love, you can show it by loving your enemies especially. Do good to them even when you know that they don’t deserve such treatment from you.

In faith, never give up believing God’s promises upon your life. Keep speaking the Word of God over your life, whether you see it or not. That is how to get what you pray for (see Mark 11:24).

In purity, commit to living a holy life, both privately and publicly. Let your devotion to God and hate for evil be evident unto all.

Dear believer, be committed to living unto God every second of your life. May the Lord help you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your love and patience in seeing me grow. Help me to follow You closely in all my ways. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
