[14] as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; [15] but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, [16] “Be holy, for I am holy.” — I Peter 1:14 - 16 NKJV
Are you aware God is holy? Maybe it’s been a doctrine in your local church for a long time. But how often have you sat down to meditate in that short sentence? 1 John 1:5 NKJV (boldface mine) says,
“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”
So in God, there’s no trace of evil. That is why He’s holy, and that standard of His nature will never change.
Now, knowing that God is holy, it must be established in your consciousness that God walks with holy people. The reason why the Holy Spirit lives in us despite our flawed lifestyle is because God sees us as Jesus is (see 1 John 4:17), and He’s in our hearts to help transform us till we become like Jesus uniquely. Because of that mandate, He gives us, God’s children, the empowerment to live above the dictates of sin.
Dear friend, God expects you to be holy in all your conduct (thought patterns, words, actions and general behaviour). He wants you to have such a pure life that even the closest unbeliever won’t have anything evil to say about you. But the truth is, you can’t get to that standard without Him. That is why God works in you, both to will and to do His good pleasure (see Philippians 2:13).
Don’t be a control freak of your life if you want God to have His way in it for your own benefit. In all your ways, submit to Him, and He shall establish your steps (see Proverbs 3:6).
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Thank You, God, for the work You do in me to live holy unto Your name every now and then. Help me to submit to Your Spirit’s leadership upon my life so that I’ll not miss my providential way. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
