“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.” — I John 1:5 NKJV
No matter how bright a light bulb is in a room, there are still places that’ll be dark in the room. Why? Because opaque objects in the room will block light from shining in some areas. That’s a picture of us humans. We’re not all-around perfect. We have weaknesses, character flaws and little understanding of some mysteries of God in the reality of life. So Jesus says in Matthew 5:48 that,
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Matthew 5:48 NIV
If you’re perfect, then you don’t need to change. But we’re not; only God is. However, you can be perfect in Christ just as Jesus said if you are intentional about following God, understanding Him and doing everything He tells You in His Word all around in your life. Yet, it takes time to get there. Spiritual growth is a process of maturity with patience, not a spontaneous level in Christ to attain. But what about God?
He’s unchanging. He’s constant in who He is (Hebrews 13:8). God can’t outgrow Himself because He’s the definition of perfection. The Bible says there’s no darkness in God. That means that no dimension of God is evil. In James 1:17, the Bible says,
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17 NIV
There’s nothing good and perfect that doesn’t come from God. God is so good and full of light that even His turning produces light. That means, when He turns His back on you about something, there’s still glory in it, not because He’s wicked, but because He wants to implant His Word in you through difficult situations. So God sometimes allows us to pass through trials in order for Him to work out His Word in our hearts.
Don’t trace evil happenings to God. Just because He allowed it to happen doesn’t mean He caused it. He didn’t and will never do it. However, He’ll use that situation to teach you something new in His Word you may never know. The question is, “Can you discern the voice of God in the midst of storms?”
Fret not because God is with you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Oh God, I pray that you’ll help me to discern Your Word of light to my spirit when I face challenges. I’ve learnt in Your Word that there’s no darkness in You. So, in the name of Jesus, I refuse to trace bad happenings in life to You, as I yearn to become more discernible about Your teachings daily. Amen.
