[12] “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
Are there one-edged swords in existence? Yes. Also known as single-edged swords, only one part is sharp and can be used for cutting. Double-edged swords are more dangerous because both sides are sharp. That is why many warriors used them in the past, especially in movies. But in Hebrews 4:12, the Bible says the Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword. Notice the use of the word “any” in the scripture. It means that no matter how advanced technology gets, no manufactured sword will ever be sharper than God’s Word.
Think about when this epistle was written. Many of the technological improvements and dangerous weapons were not in existence. Man has manufactured weapons, used, and some destroyed. None of them is permanent, but the Bible is.
Two primary functions of a sword are offence and defence. For offence, it destroys the works of the enemy. For defence, it provides us with divine covering when we live in its consciousness. Dear believer, your prayers are effective when sourced from your understanding of what God says in His Word. Study the Bible and live by the revelation you receive as you delve deeper into it. May the Lord strengthen you.
