How to Have Good Success as a Christian

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” — Joshua 1:8 NKJV

In life, everybody wants to be successful. Right? Nobody wants to live struggling throughout life. That’s why many people, especially recent graduates in Africa, make frequent career changes after school merely to do something menial to survive. But let’s be honest. Did God bring us here to struggle and work hard simply to make a living? I suppose not. Even in the Garden of Eden, He ensured that He provided everything man would ever need to live well and fulfilled before creating Adam. So, the success of God’s children matters to Him.

However, He’s the One who created this Earth. And since the fall of man that led to Him cursing the ground (see Genesis 3:17), the effect of that proclamation is still felt in many lives. That doesn’t mean God enjoys seeing people struggle. No! He hates sin, so anyone who follows the way of sin will feel the impact of this curse in one’s life. Thanks be unto Him that the case is different for we believers in Christ.

Reading Joshua 1:8, God described how to have good success as His child. You may feel He was speaking to only Joshua in the verse, but I tell you that what He said applies to you. In simplified terms, He said the fundamental way of securing your success in Christ is by observing to do according to everything written in the Word (Bible). But how can you observe to follow God’s Word if you don’t study and meditate in it everyday? It’s impossible. Why? Because it’s just like a student moving into the exam hall without learning the course content for which he’s going to write that exam. He will fail; right?

In the same way, God’s principle underlying the possession of not just success but “good success” is to meditate in the Word and observe to do according to everything in it. Therefore, experiencing the blessings of God in life is not dependent on how hard you work or even how much you’re paid at the end of the month. It’s dependent on your walk with God. I guarantee you that this revelation works. Several strong Christians I know enjoy loads of blessings – beyond the acquisition of physical possessions – but never worked hard for them. God just kept blessing them as they kept following Him. And I’ve also seen it in my life as a young minister.

Dear friend, God has unlimited provisions for you. But He primarily wants to develop a deep intimacy with you so that everything He plans to bless your life with will spring out of the consistent love fellowship you have with Him. Do not take God’s Word any less seriously for no reason.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to meditate in the Word and observe to do everything according to all that is written in it, so I will have good success just as You’ve promised in Your Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
