“The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” — Psalms 27:1 NKJV
There came a time in my life when I had to live with one of my relatives for some months. He wasn’t a minister but the kind who closes from work early, gets home early and by 8 pm, he closes his door, ready to sleep. I, on the other hand, had gone through several years of godly training in the ministry, especially at the university, where we prayed almost every Friday evening till 11 p.m. I was used to going home late, arriving in the room around midnight. And because of that training, God built courage in me to walk alone at night, even in dark places, without any hint of fear.
My relative struggled to live with me for a while because he thought we had the same upbringing. He expected me to come home early, cook and move around. But I was too busy and mindful of fulfilling my calling that I never arrived home early. I was never determined to live like him. It got to a time when he understood that we were different. Then he stopped troubling me.
My relative was thinking about my safety. I was thinking about finishing the task for the day, especially concerning the ministry, before getting home. I had no fear of walking late at night home. Why? Because I knew that the Lord is my light and salvation. Today, that scripture, Psalm 27:1, applies to you also. The Lord is your light and your salvation. That is why you’ve got to be confident about your safety in God any time in every day.
Where there is light, evil cannot thrive. That’s why thieves usually steal at night. Therefore, with God being your light – guide in life, as well as your salvation – deliverer, be rest assured that when you follow Him, you won’t end up in the wrong place in life. You’re secure following God’s patterns and ways because the Ancient of days know what is best for you. Trust in Him.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, be my guide and deliverer as I step out to carry out Your will every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
