“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” — Galatians 5:25 NIV
Just because you’ve been offered admission to a university doesn’t mean you’ll automatically go to class. No! Lectures may be well structured and scheduled, but you still have the liberty to go or not. Nobody forces you to do what you have to do. In Christ, this truth holds.
Although you may be born again, filled with the Holy Spirit and intimate with the Lord, God doesn’t completely take away your human will from you. He empowers you by grace to live like how your life has been programmed to walk in good works (Ephesians 2:10). Nevertheless, being conscious of obeying Him doesn’t entirely depend on His empowerment but also your choice.
In Galatians 5:25, Paul makes a profound statement that reminds us to follow God’s patterns in all life endeavours. He says, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
Now, wait a minute. I thought living by the Spirit was all we require to stay connected to God. But there’s more. And that is, we must intentionally pay attention to living by the dictates of God. But what does that mean?
- It means vehemently opposing obeying anything that’ll lead you to disobey God. An example is fleeing from sexual immorality.
- Deliberately keep watch on those that surround your life. Why? Because your friends are a photograph of your future (Vlad Savchuk). Who you allow in your circle directly influences your life. So if such people aren’t close friends of Jesus, they’ll not inspire you to live unto God.
There may be more explanations for this thing. But understand that Jesus is on the mission of turning everything on this Earth unto God’s righteousness, and you are a part of His plan. Submit yourself to God for the spread of His kingdom. May you be empowered to do great exploits.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray, help me, as well as each of Your children, to live according to Your dictates. Empower us to resist conforming to any evil pattern in this world by the efficacy of Your Word in us. Amen!
