[3] “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. [4] But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, [5] not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, [6] whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, [7] that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” — Titus 3:3-7 NKJV
One time, I was conversing with a friend who had issues in his church. According to him, he saw the ills of many people he fellowshipped with under the same roof, so much so that he didn’t want to go out evangelising to others about Jesus because eventually, he’d have to bring them to the same church. But upon hearing him, I felt like this guy had forgotten how merciful Jesus had been to save him from his then-life, full of sin and lawlessness. That is the same problem Paul was addressing in Titus 3.
In verse 1, he urged the brethren to be subject to rulers and authorities and to be ready to do whatever is good. Then he continues in verse 2 by saying,
“… speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.”
Titus 3:2 (NKJV)
Concluding the instructions he laid out in the two verses, God, through Paul, remembered us that we were once foolish, disobedient, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But God showed us mercy and saved us through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.
Dear friend, I just want to remind you today. Never forget where God took you from and raised you to this level in your knowledge of Him. If it wasn’t for Jesus, I wouldn’t have been a preacher, nor would I have the divine wisdom to handle my life well. So it is for you. You might not be a preacher reading this. But for sure, God has helped you to get to where you are today. Acknowledge Him in all your ways. He will not fail you.
Prayer:
Father, may I never forget how wretched I was until You saved and raised me. I will forever be grateful for Your work in my life. Amen!
