[2] “And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” — 2 Timothy 2:2 NKJV
2 Timothy 2:2 is both a pastoral counselling and leadership verse. I believe Paul wrote it from a leadership perspective because he was writing the epistle to his son in the ministry, Pastor Timothy. He knew Timothy was young and had more physical strength to do the Lord’s work. But Paul didn’t want him (Timothy) to suffer as much as he did. Paul did solo pastoring in many of the churches that he founded. Although that work pressured him to seek and know God intimately each day, he thought it wise that it was better for Timothy to raise faithful ministers who would help him bear the load of the church.
As a leader, I take today’s devotional anchor text very seriously. Why? Because over a few years of serving God, I’ve realised that I cannot handle everything our ministry does daily to keep it running and people getting impacted. There ought to be teams and training sessions for them to know what to do to contribute to the building of God’s house.
Just as Paul counselled Timothy, dear ministry leader, commit the message of Christ to faithful ministers, who’ll help you bear the daily affairs of the ministry. If you think you can do everything alone, I assure you that the work will be too much on you that you may hardly find time to be with Jesus for private fellowship. And when that is missing, the burden will increase and your spiritual life will not be well cared for.
Don’t just see people trooping in church and not give them anything to do to serve God. No! See their potential, keep preaching the Word of Christ to them and raise them in the fear of the Lord. They’re the people God will give you to handle the various areas of the church.
The Lord is your strength.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the wisdom, that as a leader, I ought to commit the message of Christ to faithful ministers. May the ministry never lack faithful team members. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
