“And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” - II Timothy 2:2 NKJV
Doctrine is contagious. You can teach others what you know in several ways. But not every knowledge can be transferred to just any person. For example, it’s unwise to teach babes in Christ about the deep things of God. Every shepherd in Christ must discern the spiritual maturity level of the Lord’s sheep under their care in order to give them God’s Word meant right for them.
But aside from all these, there’s another form of teaching which is meant to be committed to only faithful men. Paul trained Timothy and taught him much about Christ. He was ageing, but he wanted the gospel to continue spreading. So he told Timothy to commit what he (Paul) had taught him (Timothy) to faithful men, who’d also teach others. So it’s like a cycle.
However, it’s sometimes difficult to discern people’s faithfulness at first sight. Even Paul, God counted (not saw) him faithful before putting him in the ministry (1 Timothy 1:12). So dear Christian leader, note that in raising people, others must be counted faithful to be taught. No matter how bad their attitudes are, continue teaching them God’s Word as led by God. With time, you’ll see that your labour wasn’t in vain because there’ll be spiritual transformation. Be empowered to press on.
You’re a blessing.
