Never be Lacking in Zeal

[11] “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. ” – Romans 12:11 (NIV)

Zeal is one non-negotiable factor that makes you enjoy whatever you do. If you pray with zeal, you’ll do it effectively. If you love your work, you will do it diligently and passionately. Many people who are unproductive in their various areas of life are because of a lack of zeal. And unfortunately, it can happen to even the minister of the gospel.

There are some preachers who own their ministries instead of letting God own them. So, with time, due to overthinking, they lose zeal for continuing in ministry because of the numerous atrocities they battle with. Paul knew this would affect several ministers of the gospel. So he advised the believers in Rome through his epistle, and now to us, that we should never be lacking in zeal, but what? Keep our spiritual fervour (fire) as we serve God.

The zeal for doing the work of the ministry neither comes nor isn’t maintained automatically. You can be a pastor over a large congregation, but if you don’t learn how to spend time with God consistently, your passion for ministry will dwindle over time. This is why some people start well but end up worse.

God’s fire clears every filthy thing in the path of the believer’s life. And so if a Christian doesn’t fan it to flame through consistent fellowship with God, bad things creep in subtly as engineered by the devil and eventually make him divert from God’s path. Prioritise your time with the Lord every single day.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to keep my spiritual fervour so that I will never lack zeal for doing Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
