God Doesn’t Remember Your Sins

“Then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” — Hebrews 10:17 NKJV

While growing up attending Sunday school, a kids’ service in my local church, I was taught that God is omniscient. That is, He knows everything, past, present and future. So when I later read Hebrews 10:17 and Hebrews 8:12 and saw that God doesn’t remember the sins of us, who have been saved by grace through faith, I was confused.

I asked myself, “If God is omniscient, it means He doesn’t forget things.” But I didn’t know God is also powerful. Despite His capacity, there are things He won’t do even though He can do them. For example, God can lie, but He won’t lie because He’s love, and love doesn’t delight in evil.

In the same way, God doesn’t remember your sins because He had chosen to forgive and forget them when Jesus paid for them on the cross. Isn’t that wonderful?

You don’t have traces of past sins when you come into Christ. You’re spiritually washed off every filth of sin in your past, regardless of how harmful it was to you. So when the enemy tries remembering you of something evil you did, tell him even God has forgotten it, so he has no audacity to remember you about it.

Personalise these things. Keep saying, “I am not what I did; I am who God says I am.” Constantly declaring this truth is instrumental to overcoming condemning thoughts from the pit of hell.

Don’t focus on purifying your character. Focus on becoming more intimate with the Lord. He will transform your life as you submit yourself to Him wholeheartedly.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Oh God, I affirm the truth that my sins are forgiven and forgotten. Therefore, I choose not to remember what You have forgotten. I am who You say I am, not the bad things I did in times past. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
