How Can I Verify My Salvation in Christ?

Have you ever come to the point of doubting your salvation? You’ve probably asked yourself in times past, “What shows that I am saved?” or “How can I verify my salvation in Christ?”

Although it’s common to see this, I see it to be that many people are confused about what it means for Jesus to give them salvation. Is salvation only proven by guaranteeing a date you made a faith confession (usually called “salvation prayer”) for Jesus to come and live in your heart after a Christian? No!

Some people in Christ have reduced salvation to saying “salvation prayer,” and that’s all. But merely saying that prayer after someone doesn’t give you evidence that you are saved? Jesus is the One who saves, not the salvation prayer. Nevertheless, the salvation prayer helps you make the faith confession for Jesus to come and live in your heart.

Other mysteries are in the Bible that can help you prove you have salvation, and I’m sharing four of them with you in this article today.

Jesus is the One who saves, not the salvation prayer. Nevertheless, the salvation prayer helps you make the faith confession for Jesus to come and live in your heart.

1. You love God

The first and foremost evidence of your salvation is your genuine love for God. Anybody can claim to love God, but you must understand God’s love language to judge it correctly. In John 14:15 (NKJV), Jesus said

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

Also, in 1 John 3:24 (NKJV), the Bible says,

“Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.”

From the two Bible verses above, it’s clear that God’s love language is submission.

When you keep His commands (not the ten commandments but walking in love) in your heart, you’ll live like Him, and that will show you that you love God. Secondly, the Holy Spirit in you will also help you know you have God.

God’s love language is submission.

Although godly submission is in levels, there’s enough room to become more intimate with the Lord. However, once you genuinely assess your heart and know by the Holy Spirit that you love God, you’re saved.

2. You have fellowship with the brethren

Another way to check whether you’re saved or not is the state of your fellowship with the brethren (brothers and sisters in Christ). If you move along with fellow Christians who teach, inspire and love you to walk in the truth of God’s Word, you’re indeed saved. 1 John 3:14 (NKJV) says,

“We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.”

You cannot say you love someone and not wish to have anything to do with the person. It may not be direct, but it’ll still be in the heart. You have passed from death to (eternal) life if you see in your life that you love the people of God.

3. Your life is getting transformed to become more Christ-like

One thing about God is that He accepts anyone just as he is and then transforms his life altogether. Probably you lived a life of sin and lawlessness before you came into Christ, and now all those practices are gone. That’s enough evidence that you’re saved.

However, suppose you’ve accepted Jesus as Lord and personal saviour and still don’t see a massive transformation in your life, don’t doubt your salvation. Instead, recognise that you need discipleship. So listen to sound doctrine consistently, and continue studying the Bible. The Word of God will cleanse very filthiness in your life (John 15:3).

4. You speak in tongues

Lastly, tongues speaking is another evidence of salvation. When you speak in tongues, it indicates that the Holy Spirit lives in you because the utterance comes from Him.

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:4 (NKJV)

The Holy Spirit lives in only those who’re saved (Romans 8:9).

With all these points raised, you should be able to assess your life and whether you’re saved or not.
