Love Jesus

“If you love Me, keep My commandments." - John 14:15 NKJV

Love is reciprocal. That means one party has to give love, and the other party has to receive and reflect it.

It wasn’t us who first loved God. He loved us first when He sent Jesus to be the propitiation for our sins (1 John 4:10). And by giving us love, we ought to receive and reflect on it.

How do we receive God’s love? By accepting Jesus as Lord and personal Saviour. How do we also reflect God’s love? By obeying Jesus’s commandments (John 14:15). How do we keep Jesus’ commands? By obeying His teaching. Hear what the Jesus says in John 14:23 (NIV),

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

In simple terms, Jesus’s commandments are His teaching. Therefore, anyone who wants to express love to Jesus must know and obey His teaching (the Word). So loving Jesus isn’t shown in what you do for Him, but by doing what He says.

Don’t confuse loving God with working for God. They’re different things altogether. As a wife reflects the love of her husband by submitting to him (Colossians 3:18), so you, as a part of Jesus’s bride, must reflect His love by doing what His Word teaches. Study and practice the Word and you’ll love Jesus automatically.

You’re a blessing.
