“But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:” - Titus 2:1 NKJV
A sound doctrine is uncorrupt teaching. As ministers of the gospel, we teach others by the words we preach constantly. That is why it’s not surprising that in almost every church or ministry, the mindset of the congregation is usually the same as that of their minister or pastor.
Teachings are powerful and can direct the course of lives. But they can also be dangerous because they are prone to errors, especially in an area where there’s ignorance or inadequate knowledge.
When Paul described some qualities of a sound (good) church in Titus 2:1-10, he told Titus, a resident pastor, to speak proper things for sound doctrine. That means words are things (Mark 11:23), and whatever the minister teaches must carry Truth from the Word.
You may not stand before a pulpit to teach or preach the Word of God. But remember that you’re an ambassador of Christ in this world (2 Corinthians 5:20). Your words are powerful. Ensure the content of your speech is in line with what the Bible teaches. Don’t teach what you’re not sure about. Avoid saying things that aren’t good because you destroy everyone who reads or listens to those words. Learn more of the Word before moving out to preach.
You’re a blessing.
