“But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” — II Timothy 4:5 NKJV
One essential practice everyone must periodically do is life evaluation. In other words, you must set some time off from day-to-day activities in order to analyse your life. Ask yourself questions such as, “Am I living on purpose, or have I become a slave to multiple damaging habits?” “Am I following God or drifting away from the gospel of Christ.”
You see, the fact that you’re in Christ and submitting to the leadership of the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean you must have a disorganised life. No! Probably, there are so many character flaws about you that you don’t even know. And I must say that these things usually surface when you enter into relationships. What about bad habits? Maybe you’re addicted to candy, but you haven’t realised it. Or, perhaps you don’t like cleaning your room? You must run periodic checks on your life very well.
Paul told Timothy to be watchful in all things. That means he shouldn’t just follow God but his head also; so that his life won’t become so spiritual that he neglects his physical endeavours.
If you’re married or in a godly relationship, both God and your partner can help you evaluate your life. But if you’re single, you must do it yourself with the help of the Holy Spirit. No man knows you like you, and only God knows you best. Until every part of our lives become subject to the gospel, your spiritual transformation will never cease. We’re all work in progress. And until each one reaches the measure of Christ, we must continue maturing. Watch your life and doctrine closely, friend. Use God’s grace to change what you need to change in your life before beginning the new year. Shalom.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, please open my eyes to see what I need to change as I evaluate my life from this day forward. Help me not to carry over what has to be left behind as a new year approaches. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
