Love the Lord Your God and Keep His Requirements

[1] “Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.” – Deuteronomy 11:1 (NIV)

God gave Moses ten commandments for the Israelites to follow on Mount Sinai. But by the end of his lifetime, there were over six hundred laws the Israelites were to follow. Among all of them, Jesus confirmed the greatest commandment – love the Lord your God and keep His requirements (see Matthew 22:36-37). Today, it hasn’t changed. Well, you may say we live in the dispensation of grace, so the laws are non-functional. But the Bible says in Romans 13:10 (NKJV) that,

[10] “Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.”

When you love the Lord, keeping His commands won’t be burdensome because love will make it easy for you to submit to Him. But we live in a generation where people are trying hard to get godly results without applying God’s principles. And it doesn’t work like that.

There are benefits to following the way of the Lord, but not without sacrifice. Loving God can come with demands. Some of His instructions aren’t always pleasant because they can make you very uncomfortable. But it is always worth it. If I don’t know anything about God, at least I can boast of it that He is faithful. Hope in Him.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your love. Help me to love You deeply and keep Your commands wherever I am. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
