[19] “Moreover his mother used to make him a little robe, and bring it to him year by year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.” – 1 Samuel 2:19 (NKJV)
Today isn’t Mother’s Day. But Mother’s Day has always been more popular than Father’s Day. Why? The consistency of a mother’s love for her children is so evident that it’s indisputable. I am writing this as a male, so I’m not biased here. I even thought this doctrine started recently, not knowing it had been captured centuries ago in the Old Testament.
When I read 1 Samuel 2:19, I grew fond at heart. Think about Hannah, who prayed so much before God opened up her womb to conceive children, first Samuel and some others. Many people don’t know that Samuel had siblings from her mother. But the Bible says Hannah had three sons and two daughters aside from Samuel (see 1 Samuel 2:21). It is just that Samuel was dedicated to serving in the Lord’s temple. So his parents usually saw him once a year. However, the Bible says Hannah used to make him a little robe and bring it to him every year she came with Elkanah to offer the yearly sacrifice. She was far away from her child, but she didn’t grow any less fond of him. What a mother!
You may not have had the privilege of seeing your mother. Maybe you stayed with your aunties who maltreated you. Or perhaps you grew up as an orphan in an abandoned village. But, friend, no matter which parental figure has been absent in your life, God can fill that gap. Is it your father who failed you? God can replace him. Is it that your mother abandoned you when you were a child? God can fill that hole in your life. Don’t live always groaning on an absent close relative in your life. God cares about you and will take care of you. Watch in hope of the Lord.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your love. I pray that fill every emptiness in my heart in this atrocity-filled life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
