[8] “And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. So he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you did call me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD had called the boy. [9] Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place. [10] Now the LORD came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.” – 1 Samuel 3:8-10 (NKJV)

Today’s generation is one of the most confused generations ever living on the face of this Earth. New things are coming up each day. Today, many people are following this, and the next day, that. And so because of that, many struggle to follow a specific direction in their lives. That’s why focused people are scarce in this generation.

In the book of 1st Samuel, specifically chapter 3, Samuel was a young boy ministering to the Lord. He didn’t know so much about hearing God because he wasn’t really trained to hear God for himself until he had an initial experience of it. When God spoke to Samuel, he thought Eli was calling upon him. But it wasn’t. He heard the voice but couldn’t discern it was God speaking. Think about this for a moment.

Samuel, although a child, was grown enough to discern the voices of people. So, it was natural that he heard God’s voice like that of the prophet Eli. From this, I learned that God’s voice is discerned because He can speak, and you may hear it like that of a man’s voice, probably someone you know.

Samuel humbly went to Eli to ask whether he was calling him, and Eli said if he heard the voice again, he should say, “Speak, for Your servant hears.” Lo and behold, when Samuel did this, God spoke to him. What can we learn here?

As a believer in ministerial training, you must allow able ministers to guide you. It’s not everything you’ll know how to do when you are under training. So, the guidance of experienced ministers can help you avoid many mistakes. Don’t be proud; be subject to godly correction.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for grace and guidance. Place me among fathers in the faith who will love and guide me in Your ways. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
