“The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.” — Proverbs 17:3 NIV
Do you know God is skilful in testing your heart? Maybe you don’t believe it. But He does it every day using circumstances and money.
For example, Jesus says your heart is where your treasure is (Luke 12:34). Hence, God watches how you use every money that gets into your hands to test your heart’s content. So if you love Him, it’ll be evident in you using your money to support His work consistently.
What about the circumstances of life? God tests your heart by using situations to refine your faith. In other words, when all things seem nasty, and you still hold on to His Word, you’ll learn to trust Him well.
Solomon knew this, so he compared how God tests people’s hearts with how gold and silver get refined. During his reign, kings had a lot of gold and other precious stones. They used to refine them to get them pure. Solomon knew that gold could only become pure when subjected to a furnace to bring out the impurities.
Here’s the point. God doesn’t send problems into our lives, but He always uses them to bring out the best in us through the refinery of our faith.
Maybe you’re going through a difficult season, and you’ve been asking God, “Why me?” I want to encourage you to see life differently. Begin to pray and reflect on what God wants to use that situation to implant His Word in your heart. Knowing this will give you enormous strength to go through it while benefiting from it.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, help me to understand Your ways better. Turn my thinking pattern from complaints to one that seeks to understand the reason behind every happening in my life. So, by Your grace and empowerment, I’ll go through each of them. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
