[7] “Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” – Hebrews 13:7 (NIV)
Leaders are an excellent category of people who are worthy of imitation. But of course, not every leader is good. Some are bad, yet still have followers. One example is the devil. He has no love, yet demons are obeying his instructions to keep doing harmful things to individuals, nations and societies. While it wasn’t clear what the word “leaders” referred to in Hebrews 13:7, I believe the writer, whom many assume to be Paul, was referring to the preachers in the Old Testament.
All of them – Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and many more people- did extraordinary things by faith that many believers fail to learn from today. For example, some visionary people in Christ may not have studied the life of Joseph, so they don’t know what it means to carry a vision in the midst of turbulent times.
Dear friend, God wants you to imitate the faith of the fathers. That means you must study the lives of the patriarchs and prophets in the Old Testament because their lives have a lot to teach you. I love the book of Genesis because the patriarchal stories are dominant there. But I read other books of the Bible, too. I challenge you that if you commit to studying them, it’ll be easier to apply what you learn by imitating their faith. May the Lord strengthen you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to imitate the faith of the fathers in the Word. I ask for grace to run my race of faith with greater patience. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
