Accept Corrections

“Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.” — Proverbs 12:1 NKJV

One thing many find hard to do is correcting people when they are wrong. Some people can’t see that they’ve offended others with their attitudes. And some also refuse to listen to the younger generation, thinking they are all-knowing. But that’s not true.

See, no disciple of Jesus corrected him because he was [as is still flawless – without sin (2 Corinthians 5:21)]. But we’re not perfect human beings. We all have attitudinal errors and wrong things we always do — knowingly or unknowingly.

If you’re living alone, you’ll hardly see your faults. But when you start living with others, you’ll see that the offences will abound. Jesus, knowing this very well, said that we should never think of nobody offending us (Luke 17:1). However, how we respond to situations changes things.

If you’re privileged to have people who’ll tell you your wrongdoings, put your ego aside and accept corrections. I say this especially to men because men have more ego than women.

Proverbs 12:1 says that it’s only a stupid person that hates correction. Yes, it’s sometimes uncomfortable to get rebuked. But if you’ll look at how God will use those situations to refine your character, you’ll unimaginably experience spiritual transformation.

Don’t lose hope. Don’t keep people imprisoned in your heart. Forgive others. But when you’re wrong, accept corrections and move on with your life.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, in Jesus’ name, help me to get rid of my ego in my life. So that when people correct me when I’m wrong, I’ll accept it in good faith and become more Christ-like. Amen.
