[19] “We love Him because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19 (NKJV)
1 John 4:19 is one of the most solemn scriptures I have ever read. It tells us that we love God because He first loved us. Isn’t that wonderful? Even in romantic relationships, it always takes one side, especially the man, to pursue the other before the love sparks up. Now, for us, God knew we had sinned and had separated from Him. So, He did the hard work of sending Jesus to come and die for us to atone for our sins.
Here is truth, dearly beloved. The day the partition between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place in the Temple was divided and opened upon Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross, it meant that God had opened the pathway for anyone to come closer to Him, including you. That is why the grace that brings salvation has appeared unto all men (see Titus 2:11).
You have the capacity to love God because He first loved you and has given you His salvation. See, don’t let the passing pleasures of the world tell you that it is pointless to live a godly life in this perverse generation. There is more enjoyment in God than you can ever think of. Draw near to Him, and love Him with all your heart, soul and mind. He will never leave nor forsake you.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for loving me even when I didn’t deserve it. Help me love You well daily as I live to fulfil Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
